Research Highlights
1. Social robots significantly enhanced students' motivation and engagement in educational settings, with an overall notable and statistically significant effect. The impact of social robots was greater on learning engagement compared to motivation, potentially due to their immediacy of interaction.
2. STEM and language subjects showed best results from robot applications, relating to synergies between robots and disciplines. Younger students from primary school benefited most from robots, linked to declining curiosity at older ages.
3. gender proportion and intervention duration variables did not significantly moderate the impact of robots on motivation/engagement.
4. Adaptive robot systems also demonstrated large effects highlighting future potential. Robot application in homeschooling environments remained unexplored.
