Research Highlights
1. The acceptability, feasibility, and effectivess varies across digital intervention types. Structured/Unstructured Formal interventions like telehealth and mobile apps have shown effectiveness in reducing symptoms such as depression and stress. Meanwhile, Structured/Unstructured Informal such as serious games and some social media platforms demonstrate potential through increased engagement, though uncertainties remain around problematic useage.
2. This research emphasized the significance of social connections, community engagement, and personalized experiences in the digital mental intervention. Maintaining social support networks and tailoring tools to individual needs may optimize outcomes.
3. While there’s still no selected studies with VR/Metaverse in this research, this technology show promise for delivering mental healthcare digitally. VR offers a sense of immersion through interactive virtual worlds, and its synchronicity fulfills the needs for personalization and interaction essential in digital interventions. Moreover, the Metaverse's 3D avatar interactions may enhance user experience because customizable and diverse avatar options could better represent their identities. For LGBTQ+ youth seeking social connections, the Metaverse also simulates real-life interactions through avatars and provides social opportunities without isolation risks.
